- The Confession of a Chorister: Saint Chronicles Choir (Saint Thomas I High School, Medan)
How many of you joined an extracurricular activity in your high school?
What is your motivation of joining that extracurricular activity?
How many of you joined an extracurricular activity in your high school?
Have you ever joined a choir in your high school?
Do you even know a choir is?
That's question above is a few questions of many questions from me about an extracurricular activity in my high school, the one and only extracurricular activity that I've ever joined when I was in high school, Saint Chronicles Choir.
Here's a story of my first meeting with this 'hard to move-on' choir.
It was on 2004 when I entered my high school, Saint Thomas I High School. For the first three days, the new students had a full-orientation about this school at the hall. It was a boring situation. Very boring seminar. Luckily, we hadn't had to study in the classroom. It's like a holiday. Just sleep if you were boring. At the last day of the orientation, the third day, the committee decided to make it more enjoyable. There are some performances from extracurricular activities at this school. One of the performances was St. Chronicles Choir singing "Anak Sekolah". It was pretty good but I really didn't have any interest to register to this choir.
Later on, there were an open recruitment for new batch (batch 2004). The batch was called "Angkatan 12". My friend told me that it would be an audition for Festival Paduan Suara ITB 2004. It was because they were lack of male choristers. My friend succeeded influencing me to join this choir. Later on, I join the singing audition first. Long story short, I wasn't chosen for joining the team to FPS-ITB 2004. It was sad but I really didn't have nothing to lose.
The team didn't win the competiion. They got really bad rank. I forget but it's around 7th or 8th rank. It was really sad to know that all your hard work didn't yield a good rank. But all the chorister realize that winning is important but the most important thing is the process because it really develop the choir and themselves to next level.
Ok, back to the story. After their arrival in Medan again, they held an initiation for "Angkatan 12". I was beat up. It was really tiring but it's fun. Hooray, I'm officially a member of Saint Chronicles Choir.
That was my story. How was your story?
Why I cannot move on from this choir?
